Don Pedro Island to Ft Myers Yacht Basin

November 3, 2015

Only 53 more miles and we would arrive at Ft Myers Yacht Basin!  We got up with the sun, took Sasha to shore, then weighed anchor.

We forgot that the first bridge was on a construction schedule and only opened on the hour, so when we arrived there by 7:20 a.m., we had 40 minutes to wait.  Oh well, we had time for a nice breakfast after all.

The old bridge is only 9 ft high.  Once the new bridge is finished, the clearance will be 24 ft.
Fortunately we didn’t need any other bridges raised for us, so we made pretty good time even though there were a few no wake zones to go through.  We enjoyed the sights and tried to pay attention to places we might want to come back to.

We thought someone had built a house in the middle of a cove off of the channel, but when we got close enough, we saw that it was a floating bait shop.  There were a lot of boats and fisherman around, so we’re sure they did a good business.

We saw nice homes on some of the small islands which were accessible only by boat or helicopter.  We didn’t really think about all of the services that would have to be delivered to these islands until we saw a tow with dumpsters approaching one of them.

We arrived at Ft Myers Yacht Basin by 2:30 p.m. and pulled over to one of the face docks to off-load our scooter.  Then we pull into our slip, E48, which was coincidentally right across from where the Ft Myers Fire Dept kept their boats.!

What are the odds really?!
The slip is very conveniently located near grassy areas, parking for scooters and motorcycles, a bike rack, and a dumpster.  One of neighbors has 2 dogs, one of which is a very friendly 2-year-old Rottweiler, so maybe Sasha will have a good doggie playmate.

We plan to stay here for at least a month and maybe two.  Our previous owners, Bill and Libby Krumrey, live in Cape Coral and have a boat here at the marina, so we hope to be able to visit with them and show them what we have done to Lorelei IV so far.  We really can't say enough what good people they are and how helpful they have been to us since we have owned the boat.  Our friends from Green Turtle Bay, Joe and Judy Lindhorst, also live in Cape Coral, and we hope to visit with them as well if we can catch them at home in between their frequent travels.  Sasha will definitely be excited to see them too!

  1. Love that floating bait shop, and of course, my eyes brightened as I read that you are across from where the FD keeps their boats! [chuckle] I want to go back and read your previous posts as I began to do, but then realized I also wanna keep up with what's happening now. Glad you made it to Ft. Myers safely!
