Our first few days in Ft Myers

November 4-7

We spent our first few days at Ft Myers Yacht Basin getting settled in and doing a little exploration.  The Ft Myers River District shops and restaurants are a few blocks walk from the marina, and it seems as if there is some sort of activity going on there every weekend.  It reminds us a bit of Old St Charles, MO, but more modern as the streets are brick but wider and more level and the buildings are newer or have been updated/refurbished.

There are a couple of good places for Sasha to play Frisbee which are within 2 blocks of the boat.

Perfect for Sasha's Frisbee sessions even at night
We visited with our previous owners, Bill & Libby Krumrey, taking them to lunch at The Lodge, a newer restaurant in the District.  The food was moderately priced and very good.  Rob had salad and a brisket wrap, and I had smashed potatoes with brisket.  Most restaurants have outside seating, but we sat inside because there were record highs in the 90's for this time of year.

We also visited with our good friends and former dock neighbors from Green Turtle Bay, Joe & Judy Lindhorst.  Joe picked us up and drove us all, Sasha included, to their home in Cape Coral.  We have had Sasha on the scooter before, but since she seemed to get a little restless after a couple of miles, we don’t think we could’ve have taken her to their house ourselves.  I’m not sure Aunt Judy would have welcomed us if we didn’t bring Sasha to see her!  They have a very nice home with a lanai and pool, as well as a butterfly garden.  They have a very pretty water feature, especially at night with the lights, but my cell phone did not do it justice.  We’ll just have to have another visit, so I can take a better picture!

Super nice lanai & pool
When we got to their house, Sasha surprised us all by exploring the house thoroughly before greeting Judy.  We finally figured out that she was looking for their dog, Brandy, even though she has been gone now for a couple of years.  Apparently, scents hang around longer than we think.

We grilled out on the lanai for supper and took a refreshing dip in the pool.  Judy spoiled Sasha with baked doggie treats from the Bark St Dog Bakery and she got to play Frisbee, so a great time was had by all.

Sleeping like a kid on the way home, worn out from her fun time
We are looking forward to the arrival of our friends, Jim & Ann Vandiver, from Quincy, on Sunday, November 8.  When they arrive, we are all going to go to Ft Lauderdale to prepare their new (to them) boat for the Tuesday departure to bring it to Ft Myers.

Enough room for a band on the weekend and for events
